Itinerary

Day 1  Tsagaan Suvraga

Start the day by heading to Tsagaan Suvarga, (approximately 6 hours away) found in the middle Gobi with its unique landscape of desert steppes. Look for ancient rock paintings along the way.

Day 2  Yoliin Am

After breakfast we will drive to Dalanzadgad City before travelling to Yolyn Am for quick shower. Yoliin Am a wonderfully picturesque place with ice even in summer, and surrounded by sheer rocky walls, forming incredible canyons. These areas are situated in the Gobi Gurvan Saikhan National Park that encompasses the “Three Beauties” peaks and the most easterly points of the Altai Mountains.

Day 3 Khongor Sand Dunes

Today you will drive through the beautiful Khongor Sand Dunes (approximately 4 hours) with its towering sand dunes that seemingly stretch on for as far as the eye can see. En route, you’ll stop to experience camel ride through the dunes and enjoy the sun set from the top of the dunes.

Day 4  Bayanzag

We will wake up early to see sun rise after enjoy breakfast and take a 3 hour drive further south to the Flaming Cliffs of Bayanzag, a world famous site for excavating dinosaur fossils especially renowned for yielding the first discovery of dinosaur eggs.

Day 5  Ongi Monastery

Your journey today will include a 3 hour drive to the south to Ongi monastery ruins through the Gobi steppes. Arrive and transfer to your ger camp. Spend the balance of the day visiting the monastery ruins either by foot.

Day 6  Kharkhorum

After breakfast you will make an early drive to the lost capital of Genghis Khan at Karakorum (approximately 6-7 hours) and visit the magnificent Erdene Zuu Monastery, where you will see a distinct mixing of the styles of Mongolian and Tibetan Buddhism.

Day 7  Orkhon Valley

Leave Kharkhorum drive to Orkhon Valley Spend time in stunning Orkhon Valley and visit nearby waterfalls. Hike to the 17th-century Tuvkhon Monastery for a spectacular view of this verdant valley.

Day 8  Horseback riding to Eight Lakes (Buurug)

Today marks the beginning of our adventure. Before we leave this morning, we pack our luggage for the next two nights. We can leave all unnecessary equipment in the private yurt. The first part of the day leads us uphill through the scenic grassland.  After a hearty outdoor lunch we continue through the highlands to the mountains, not far from the mountain called Buurug.

Day 9  Lake Huise

After packing our luggage, we leave Lake Huise and the peaceful highlands. In the morning, we follow wide riding paths on which we visit rest of the lakes endlessly. During a break, we will have a picnic lunch. This is our destination for today. We leave our horses at nomadic family and spend a night in Mongolian traditional yurt.

Day 10 

We saddle our horses one last time for the ride home. This last day is like a summary of all the great experiences we have had with our favorite companions. We alternate between woods and challenging terrains. After ascending to the mountain pass Buurug, we look back over the wide highlands and see the majestic glaciers one last time.

Day 11  Tsenkher Hot Springs

Todays destination is Tsenkher Hot Springs (approximate 2 and half hour drive). If you are feeling a little bruised or achy from your travels, bouncing over Mongolian roads, then an hour or two in the springs is just the ticket for you.

Day 12  Ugii Lake to Elsen Tasarkhai

Today we will visit Ugii Lake which is located in the territory of the Arkhangai province continue to Elsen Tasarkhai between 4 hours, a common border between Tov, Ovorhangai and Bulgan provinces

Day 13  Ulaanbaatar

Drive back to the capital for last minute sightseeing. Opt to see a local cultural show, an excellent display of dancing and Mongolian throat singing. (B/L)
